Are My Dental Implant Teeth Unbreakable?

The answer to that question would be no. Dental implant teeth can break like your natural teeth. No matter what material your dental implants teeth are made out of, they might chip and break. There are several reasons to why this can happen. Eating extremely hard candy and chewing on ice can lead to a chipped or a broken tooth. Opening things with your teeth can also result in breakage. Another reason patients can have chipped teeth is if they are grinders/bruxers, and do not wear a night guard. If a patient consistently bites down and grinds their teeth, that can cause the teeth to wear down and potentially cause breakeage or chipping. When patients leave our office the day their permanent teeth are delivered, we give them a night guard to protect against grinding. With the night guard, they are able to protect their teeth from a habit sometimes they aren’t even aware of. Another reason that could possibly be a factor in teeth breakage is that the teeth and bite were not designed correctly. Even if the materials aren’t faulty, the design of the occlusion can cause the teeth to chip. This shouldn’t be a problem if you have a Prosthodontist working on your case. Prosthodontists specialize in making the prosthetics in your mouth beautiful and functional at the same time. It is imperative for patients to follow the aftercare instructions in order for them to have the best experience with their teeth; and allow them to have the optimal experience. Our dental implant center thrives to make our patients happy and ensure they have a positive experience with their FastNewSmile®.
