What To Expect When Getting Same-Day Dental Implants

Dental implants for seniors

In the past, getting dental implants was a long and involved process. But today, with technological advances, many people can get same-day dental implants in as little as a few hours!

At FastNewSmile® Dental Implant Center, we specialize in same-day dental implants that range from single implants to full arch replacements. We know dental implants are a big step in life, and the term “same-day” can leave people with questions about the procedure.

If you’re considering same-day dental implants, here are some of the top things you should expect throughout the process.

Consultation and Preparation

The first step of any same-day implant procedure is a consultation with your prosthodontist to discuss your individual needs and goals.

At this appointment, our specialists will evaluate your mouth and teeth to determine if you’re eligible for same-day implants.

If you don’t have any pressing health issues that prevent us from placing implants, we will help you create a personalized treatment plan that gets you ready for your procedure.

Implant Placement

On the day of your surgery, you can expect to receive local anesthesia before your implant placement begins.

After it kicks in, the removal of old teeth begins, and our specialists will place small titanium posts into your jawbone, which act as artificial tooth roots.

This part of the procedure usually takes between one and two hours to complete depending on how many posts need to be inserted and how long it takes for them to bond with your jawbone.

During your dental implant consultation, we’ll estimate how long implant placement will take for your situation.

Restoration Process

Once all the posts are placed, the next step is to restore them with artificial teeth that look and feel like your real teeth.

This part of the process usually takes anywhere from 30 minutes up to an hour, depending on how many teeth need to be replaced. A single tooth and full arch replacement have very different restoration time frames.

During this time, you may also receive temporary restorations while permanent ones are being made in a laboratory setting.

Pain Management

One of the biggest benefits of same-day dental implants is that they can be considered much less painful than traditional implant procedures.

This is because the surgical portion of the implant placement occurs on the same day as the crown placement. This means there is only one surgery required instead of two separate procedures.

Additionally, local anesthesia and proper post-operative care, like over-the-counter pain medicine, can help ease the pain of the procedure and lead you into the recovery process.

Recovery Time & Care

After your same-day dental implant procedure, you should take it easy for at least 24 hours afterward. Take time to rest and avoid strenuous activities that could cause further damage to your mouth or gums.

Your prosthodontist will give detailed instructions on caring for your new teeth and what foods you should avoid eating while recovering from surgery. Following these instructions will help ensure a speedy recovery and a successful outcome for your new smile!
